So I just installed a walbro 255 lph fuel pump in my 1990 ranger complete with the 2.3 naturally aspirated engine. I did this in anticipation of the turbo motor swap I will be doing in a few weeks.

Anyways, I was assuming that this would work just fine with the stock engine, as it is a return style system, it would just send back whatever fuel it didn't use. But now I have a CEL as soon as the truck tries to go into closed loop after warm up. I haven't pulled the code but I'm thinking it's running pig rich. I'd rather have it running right as i have another 1000 miles to put on it before the swap.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of putting a different (newer) spare FPR on it and see if that helps. Maybe the old one just isn't up to the task of regulating it that much.

Hmmm i ran with a stock motor and a 255lph pump for half a year and no problems.

Something must be wrong. Should not cause a CEL. Check your FP with the vacuum uncooked from the regulator it should be 43lb's.

Make sure the return line is ok.

Well I tested fuel pressure and got 65 PSI at the rail at idle :frown: . I'm thinking my 18 year old, 250,000 mile FPR just isn't up to the task. I have a nice newer spare FPR that I'm going to put on. Why did Ford have to put the bolts in from underneath? Now I have to remove the upper intake manifold and fuel rail just to get the danged FPR out :banghead:
