Yes you can. You will need pistons from Racer Walsh.

Those pistons go with stock 2.3L rods and a 2.5L crank. You couls also put 5.2" crower rods in for +375$ or so.

I know I ask this question before, can the TC rods be used on the 2.5?I was thinking that the TC pistons were small journal and the 2.5 was large journal.

Yes they can. It's the main journal that is different. The Turbo motor had a larger main journal. Rod's had all the same size 2.3L and 2.5L

What years SVO and TC used the big journal rods?

They where all the same, same as the 2.3 & 2.5L the rod journal never changed. It was the main crank journal (not the rod journal)that was large on the SVO & T/C motors.

Watch rod length. My 97 2.3 actually had the 5.5 inch rods. Everything I have read always said the 2.3 always has a 5.2 rod. Also I did a quick tape measure stroke check and it is a 2.3

A local guy says he has a set of 88-89 2.3 TC pistons and rods for $100.He says they are low miles and he built the engine with all new internals.I maybe tossing them in the 2.5L.I just don't know If I can trust him.

WOW! I did not know they had 5.5" rods in the 2.3L. But you are right. I think I heard about them before. All turbo rods are 5.2" this I do know.

Make sure they are OEM pistons. There are some knock off hypereutectic pistons out there.

ok so i talked to the guy i was gonna buy the rods and pistons to see if he had the crank as well will the svo crank work in my truck?
he said i can have the whole bottomw end for 175 if i do this can i just bolt my 2.5 head on to it?
if no ill just swap internals

No the SVO crank will not work. It must be a small journal crank. Get a 95-97 2.3 crank.

You could buy a 95-97 2.3L and put them turbo pistons in it. Check out www.car-part.com (http://www.car-part.com) for low $ 2.3L motors

alot of reasons in using different rods lengths is the use of different pistons. usually when a longer rod is used, the piston(s) height is usually shorter. crank stroke is usually increased also but not all the time. there a several ways to achieve certain engine sizes.

Was there a difference in the early 90s mustang 2.3 and the mid to late ranger 2.3?
As far as what?
Both will be a small journal 2.3. Any and All 2.3's after 1989 have the small main journal (2.5's included)
95 and newer Rangers recieved a revised and slightly recast 2.3 block. Still physically the same bore and stroke as the pre 2.3's, but slightly altered outer casting.
The 2.5 is the same exact as the 95 and later 2.3's (small main journal remember) only with a longer stroke crank, and different rod/pistons.
