first off how do u loosen the distributer to turn it? second my engine is making a knocking sound itdoes it at idle and part of the way through the rpms. when it reachs higher rpms and builds boost it stops. i was thinking maybe a timing issue or god forbed a restpin. any help would be great thanx.

I don't think a timing issue would make a knocking sound like that. To much timing with full boost will ping "spark knock"
There should be a small bolt holding the distributor down loosen it and then it will turn.
Hope it is not a rod bearing

i had a bad rod bearing in my old moter
it would go away if i would give it some gas, but eventually it got worse and did it all the time
can you hear it at idle?

if its a rod bearing its going to be cheaper to replace it then get another motor

the more i listen to it the more it sounds like it is coming from the upper part of the motor like a spark knock
