Well I started late yesterday on my turbo conversion. And to everyone with the 8-plug head, when you go to turbo, you might as well buy a clutch and turbo pistons. My motor is currently out of my truck JUST to get the oil pan off! I decided to tap the oil pan for my drain. Its been a long 2 days, I have the injectors, new plugs in and the fuel pump is 3/4 done. It frustrated me so I had to take a break from it. Found a perfect place for the intercooler which ill mount tomorrow, but I forgot the camera at the shop, will post pics ASAP! Unfortunantly the turbo oil inlet i bought came with a turbo oil outlet flange that is a damn barbed fitting! I need to find a new oil outlet flange for a t04e that is threaded. I have some AN line, size 8 or 6 that was laying around. I have to go to a speed shop Monday since everything is closed on Sundays to buy a fitting for the lines and a fitting to thread into the pan itself. I have to find the oil flange to know what I need for sizing. Oil plumbing turned out to be a huge problem, especialy with having to pull the motor!

i was actually thinking of tapping the oil pan for the oil return. i would much rather screw the pan up than the block. i just kind figured there was a reason why other tapped the block.

but i have some questions about this. first off, is how come other people haven't done this?? imo i think it would be a lot better, and easier.

the only reason i would think this wouldn't work is if the hole is tapped too low, the oil wont return form the turbo right because the oil level would be past the hole.

also do you happen to have any pictures for this?? im serioulsy interested. if i can do it this way, ill have this project done in like a month.

does anyone else have any input on this??

Nope, That's not my motor. It was on ebay a few months ago. I wish I would have had the money at the time.

I really like how that guy mounted his coil packs, might have to do that when i go to a different header and turbo.
You remember what that guy was asking for the motor?

It started at $800 the first time w/ no bids. The second time $500 and it sold that same day.

It should say in the desription of the hose what liquids it's good for. Most braided hose is good for high heat.

I'm at my friends shop as well and its been goin great. We're almost done and its only been a few days. I started Friday and should be done by tomorow if everything goes as planned. However I am waiting on a couple transition hoses and I still need a tune!! I gotta get one ASAP

For the EGR, What did everyone do with the module that plugged into the harness? Also, what did everyone do with the Vac line that attached to the top? Just unplug it and leave it? Thanks!

All of the unused vac lines have to be plugged. As for the small module that plugs into your harness ........ at the moment i can't remember what its for but i unplugged it and taped the plug up so no dirt would get in.

Hope your swap goes well! Take your time its worth the wait

Thank you for all the tips and help everyone. I have taken progress pics throughout the build, not too too in depth but progression along the way. My camera is still at the shop with great pictures on it. I'll upload them when I remember to bring them home! I'm currently waiting on some transition hoses. I bought a universal kit on ebay for intercooler piping and everything worked like a chaaaaaaarm. I'll try to upload some from my camera phone for now.

Just remember to plan as much as you can and give yourself lots of time. you can planb all you want, but you'll need parts and miscellanous items along the way!

Here are some teaser photos

The motor one is how far the motor needed to come out to get that damn oil pan out

Next is the downpipe i made out of a 90 degree and (2) 45 degree 3inch pipes. There is a vband attachment to the turbo, and a vband attachment between the cat and the downpipe. Still waiting on a muffler. Come out great tho and fits awesome

Lastly how I mounted the intercooler. It fits PERFECTLY down low there. It seems like it was made for it.

I've made more progress and re-routed all my electrical wiring and relocated both coils. More pics to come!

WOW thats a large IC. Looks good!

Haha thank you! It fits right there so perfectly it looks like it was designed for it. This was my ebay IC that came WITH all the piping. it was a great setup and package. That is a 29 X 11 X 3 IC

Looks good! You gonna get enough air flow to that IC when the bumpers on? I would just drive it without the bumper, it looks mean :=)
