Well after setting my boost to 15 psi in anticipation of installing an intercooler. I noticed pretty good clutch slip. After looking I realized that the pickings were pretty slim. I setteled on a Centerforce dual friction after hearing how happy a close friend is with his. Currently it is on back order but after install I will post how it feels and how I like it. Is anyone else using one of these.:peelout:

As long as you not maken too much power it should be fine then. My clutch is good for 400hp or so lol don't think the stock tranny can take that much but i'm bound to find out.

what type of clutch are you running. Trans failure will be the result of traction maybe even more than horsepower

Clutchnet - ceramic disc and a yellow PP (forget what stage). But the son of a gun bits like crazy. There aint no slippen it...... well unless you wanna rev it right up then it will. That would be my only regret in getting it, its not too much fun in town. But i don't live in town so its all good.

keep us posted on how it works. I'm very curious on how much power it can handle and the streetablility of it.
Pyropete could have had a killer clutch made for you for about the same price as your Centerforce or comparable SPEC clutch. Might want to get a hold of him on TurboFord and see if he can do something for you since yours is on back order.

He makes ceramic clutches though doesn't he? The centerforce should be alot less aggressive off the get go.

Yes, they are also a puck style too. I guess it depends on how much you drive the truck what you are willing to put up with.
rohd, my Ranger tranny has 210,000 miles on it ( 5 speed), holding up just fine. Changed the fluid and all the grinding and noises went away.

ive changed my fliud a few times its been bad for a while it wont allow me to shift from 1st to 2nd if moving pretty good or downshifting to 2nd unless the rpms are dropped down to 1500rpms or less otherwise it will grind bad
Synchros sound like they need replaced. But at that point, the T5(6) swap would be beneficial if you're going through the trouble of pulling the tranny.

im all about doing the t-5 swap but with having 4x4 its alot more complicated to get it all working than 2wd i have the extension housing to bolt on my 1354 transfer case but the whole cutting up the floor and redoing the driveshafts is a lot at this point and if i do all that im going to make a cable clutch pedal assembly does anyone know where i can get a manual trans breakdown or a step by step this is how u rebuild it manual

The clutch is in and feels good. The pedal feel is a little heavier than stock but not more than some stock mustangs that I have owned. It does grab much quicker than stock but is definitely driveable. Under power there is no perceptable slip. I would definitely recommend it. $260.00 from Jegs

So are you still having good luck with the centerforce dual friction clutch? My motor is out now so now is the time for me to get a decent clutch as well.
So the clutch grabs well? And not too heavy of a pedal? My truck should be a daily driver in which I see a little traffic here and there, is the clutch too heavy for that? So far it sounds good!
Did you use the stock flywheel too? Did you need to do anything special to make it work?
Thanks!

The clutch seems to be holding up fine. I would recommend it to a friend. It grabs very well. I drive a little jeckel and hyde, either I have been very easy on it or all out slamming it hard through the gears. It performs well both ways. I found it took a little getting used to coming from the stock clutch, but after a few days it was like I have been driving it for years. I do commute 35 miles each way to work and wouldn't go back. I used the stock flywheel and just scuffed it before installation then drove it easy for the first few hundred miles. The biggest differences are a slightly heavier pedal(more like stock 5.0l mustangs that I have owned and the transition from slip to grip is much quicker(you will learn to drive it quickly)
So far I would give it a 10 out of 10

Sounds excellent! What was the Jeg's part number? I saw one that looked like the one you were talking about but it didn't have much of a description. The one on summitracing looked exactly the same but it was like $360! Just double checking!

Search thier site for part number 183 DF963975. I had to find the part number on the Centerforce website and then search for it. I was unable to find it through thier site at that time. Try this and recheck the price. I don't think it would go up that much that quickly.

Well I did another search with your part # provided and I got it to show up on summitracing. Its 3 dollars cheaper, so theres not a huge discrepancy like I originally found! Thanks a ton for the part #! How did you scuff the flywheel?

I used a die grinder and brown "cookie" If that isn't available a finishing or DA sander with 220 grit would probably work well. You just want to take the shine off of the flywheel then clean it with brake clean.
When you are done fill the clutch reservoir, then have a buddy pump the clutch pedal 50 times ending down. Then open the bleeder screw. Repeat several times.
You will also need a release tool for removing the line from the slave cylinder. This is should be available at most parts store for a few dollars.
I actually had a little trouble getting the trans out because of exhaust interference. You may want to unbolt or remove the downpipe.
Also I would suggest draining the trans before removal. It will help to prevent a possible mess and the trans will shift better. Mercon III fluid

Actually I don't have to deal with all that, I have the motor out now to put in my forged internals, so now IS the time for the clutch! Haha but thank you! My stock flywheel that was on it looks great, no damage or scarring.

are you guys who are running after market clutches using the stock slave cylinders or some aftermarket one? The last thing I want is to have my stock slave cylinder to bypass because the clutch is too heavy!!

I see that CF is up to 300 on Jegs now. Are you able to slip that or does it grab pretty qucikly? I'm looking to upgrade for my '90 2.3 turbo Ranger with a stock M50r1 trans. I do drive in traffic and am considering just getting a stock replacement. Thoughts? Thanks!
