what is the reason for removing the egr system ? iv noticed most every 1 has it either removed or disconnected.

the egr is for emisions only it put unburnt fuel from the exshaust back in the motor. it will not do anything but go bad. REMOVE IT NO REGRETS LATER

how does it get removed without throwing a check engine light? What happens with the module that you plug into?

It can be turned off with a tune. I am not sure if it will throw an check engine light or not with no tune. An easy way to unhook it is to disconnect the vac line from the actuator.

Ahh Ok so I can just get that done through the tune. I removed the pipe that went from the intake to the eexhaust manifold, and also took out the module connected to the lines that come off of it.

well i have to do emissions so i wondering y was every 1 else removing it. didnt know if there was a good reason behind it.

I have to do emissions too. But If it wont throw a check engine light i dont think it will be a problem. I removed it as it was attached to my stock exhaust manifold. In putting the turbo on there is no spot for it now, and if i can get away blocking it off instead of creating a way to make it work, then thats a better option for me!

Most emission tests for obd 2 vehicles will simply be a check for pcm codes if none are present you pass. My egr valve and dpfe sensor are installed and electrically connected but not mechanically. No coded and it looks like it is hooked up unless you look closer. In my opinion once you lower compression you reduce the formation of NOX. Egr is in place to reduce combustion temperature to reduce NOX. You are doing the same thing, just a different way.

dont work that way here we use a dyno test an use califorina standards to test. so its ism240.

Ahh i see you must have an older truck then. Unless thats the way your state does it?

my truck is a 97 canadian EH! lol . an thats our testing of any car or truck over 3 years old, an they have to be tested every 2 years till its 20 years old.

OOOOOOh ok! Haha i didn't even think about the fact that you were in Canada. I didn't even see it actually until you just mentioned it! In MOST of the states a vehicle made in 1996 or newer only needs to be tested for emissions by plugging in a reader into the diagnostic port and the computer on the truck will tell the reader if everything is ok such as 02 sensors, egr....... Vehicles 95 and older have to go on a dyno and be tested every 2 years. Maybe someone with a truck a little older can tell you how to get around that because I am not sure. sorry bout that!

well hard to get a under table test now a days as the shops can get a really heavy fine an licence loss if caught.
but my concern is can i hook up the egr system an still not have a loss of performance.
i dont have a problem on making a new tube to the header an egr valve as i had to make 1 for my 94 explorer in dec as ford wanted almost $200 for it an i made 1 for $8.

if you drop your compression I doubt that the egr will be necessary as the NOX levels will already be under controll. Otherwise weld a flex pipe to your header and then connect it to your current egr pipe

if your wondering if it will show a check engine light it will. my egr went bad one week before i put my tubo set up on. i know for a fact that light will come on and i drove for a week with that check engine light on remove the lines and leve the egr valve and forget about it. a tune will be required to turn it off.

no im not worried about a check engine light as i know the obd2 is mighty sentive. i had a cel just from the air temp not hooked up 1 time.
so i can put a egr system on an hook it up without any negitive effect on performance then? dont know if it will pass emmissions but it can be there.

Did you ever sort this out?

I'm JUST starting my tear down of the engine I picked up today YAY ME lol and noticed the EGR tubing. I'm in Kitchener Ontario and need to do a dyno etest as well. I might be safe though. I need my sticker next month and I can do the etest before swapping the engine. BUT for 2 years down the road... what do I do.

try it an see if it wll pass.
find some 1 close you know who does it,an give them a few extra.
myself i havent gotten to that bridge yet as im over due now for a test. so once the truck is back out ill have to do 1 also.
