I was wondering if the adapter plate that stinger sells to adapt a sbf trans (c4) to the 2.3 would work. Reading it, and knowing that they do good work, it should work, right? Its about 2 pictures down on this page http://www.stinger-performance.com/suspensionparts.html Thanks!

I run a c4, all you neeed is the pinto 2.3L bell for the c4 and you are all set.

You would be way better off going with the AOD it has OD with a lock out converter. Then you would need that adapter plate.

would the aod also need the bell?

This is also going to be used as a daily, and also doing long drives back and forth to school (roughly 215 miles on rt. 80), so i want something with balls but also reasonable. I was also lookin at new c-4's in summit

I believe the aod, aode, 4r70w trans are all one piece with the bell housing so you would need and adapter plate to use them

I was looking into it. The converter could be a problem with the AOD and starter motor could be an issue.

hmm, so my best bet so far, would be to get a 2.3 bell, and go c4? im pretty good with motor talk and such, its just that trannies are my weak spot haha

I bought a stinger adapter plate, ran into the pilot size being diff, other than that it looked like it would have bolted up(not sure about the starter though). The main reason I didn't use it was that my a4ld went out and I didn't wanna pull the motor apart to put a bigger hole in the back of my crank. I'm building another motor now but I have like 600 bucks tied up in a c4. I have a block fresh from the machine shop and a aod sitting around I May try to put em together and put some pictures up since no one else has seem to done it yet.

Cheaper and beefier than stingers .......

Stinger doesn't seem to have very competative prices for anything he sells.

Ok I got home with my block and dug out the adapter plate now I have to get an aod out of the shed. It is in the back behind about 10 other transmissions and a couple motors. Might be the weekend b4 I dig it out.:banghead:

Summary:

I had to purchase a 5.0 clutch cable and install it under the dash.

Make sure you have the starter bolts for the 5.0 bell housing, they are SAE, not Metric.

You will also need the two bolts that bolt the bell housing to front cover on the bottom of the bell.

I actually reused the 2.3 starter. It bolts in the 5.0 bell housing and works just fine.

It is in the middle of the page is this what you were asking?

Actually mine is cheaper after shipping...and beefier doesn't always mean better, just heavier or larger so it creates more clearance issues with downpipes and such. Sometimes things are made "beefier" even though the original design was more than sufficient and had never failed under any circumstances.

Stinger's or Canefield it wouldn't really matter which you buy they both would work as well as the other. I happen to have one I don't need though if you want it pm me.
