i started putting the ranger engine back together after a little rest while i waited for some parts to come in.

well now i can find my oil timing gear. i know theres a timing sensor behin it, so my question is, will the one from the 87tc fit?? i put it on, and fits, but.... the diameter of the gear only goes halfway through the sensor. is there suppose to be something on the back of the gear for the sensor to pick up.

i did happen to notice though, that the gear the a i do have is that same size as the cam gear is this right??

one more thing, i put the crank timing gear on the crank. the one form the 97 looks like it might have smaller teeth on it than the rest of the gears. should i just swap them all out since im already using the tc head, and now possible the oil timing gear??

the 87 tc gear will have square tooth belt set up as the ranger has a round tooth belt set up. i know that much the rest i dont know.

yea, im using the 97 block.

so then i'll just use all the 87 timing gears, so that theyre all square tooth, right??

You could. If it was me I would try to keep the newer gears on there but if you don't have them the square tooth gears will work.

do you know if their the same size? im just wondering cuz of the sensor on the oil pump, since i dont know what it reads. like i know the crank sensor reads the teeth on the crank pulley.

Hey forgot about the cam sensor. You will need to use the stock 97 pulleys.

so then i will need to get the 97 timing pulleys. i have some pulleys at for the 97 ranger, but they just didnt look like they fit. im gonna have look and check them out

let me ask you guys this, is there anything on this pulley for the sensor to pickup (does anyone happen to have a picture of it) i looked one one site and it numbered the cam gear and and the oil pump gear the same number, so im thinking it the same thing

ok is this what the pulleyes are suppose to look like?? i have an adjustable cam gear on right now, which i can take off and put the original ranger cam sprocket on. next i have the original crank sprocket from the ranger block, so thats no problem. now is this that last pulley, the one on the right, thats what its suppose to look like right, or is that for an obd1 engine. if it is, what does the obd2 sprocket look like??
