Could I build the stock 2.3L auto trans to handle a 2.3L turbo puting out about 275hp? Just asking because what ever is cheaper and comes my way I'm taking. Plus my truck already has the 5.0 and a c4 and they are both coming out for the 2.3. I just do not want to swap to a 5 speed because everyone says it's a PITA<---I don't think it would be as hard as they say would it?:peelout:

BTW I posted this in the introduce yourself section I figured I should put it here.

a4ld stock wont hold up at all. you can build 1 with all the new updates witch is using a lot of the parts for the 5r series trannys. the only problem is no 1 has tried it yet to prove it works on a 2.3 turbo motor. its has been proven on 4.0 l supercharged explorers an rangers.
iv put some of the updates in my 94 explorer an i can tell a difference over the stock a4ld. so now im planning on swaping the stick for a a4ld tranny in my ranger.

why dont you use the C4?
and also is there a write up on how to swap the T5 in the rangers?

There's lots on info on RPS. Only kinda foggy issue is the speedo hookup on some rangers. If yours gets it from the rear end your all set (98+). If its a 95-97 like mine i.m not sure how you'd hook the speedo up. Its electronic but comes off the tranny. So i might swap my certain parts of my harness for a 98 so i don't have to worry about it. And i have no clue with the speedo cable rangers.

From what i've read you just take the TC bellhousing (87-88) and slave cylinder. Then mate the hydraulic lines together.

The older rangers with the speedo cables are easy to hook up. The same cable and gear/housing is used. In other words, you use your stock ranger cable and gear, no mods what so ever to get your speedo hooked up.

If you look on www.turbotbird.com, you will find a spreadsheet on what speedo gear (color/# of teeth) in combination with what rear end ratio will put your speedo accuracy back on track.

I have a 2000 ranger. It has a fresh 4R44E with the VB upgrades. It's my daily driver and it's taking a 12psi beating everyday on my 55 mile round trip commute.

watch the second gear shifts. the 4R44E has the 3 pin second gear panetarys. they wont take a whole lot of abuse. the 4.0L has the 4 pinner and the upgrade is the 6 pin.

Yeah, I remember making a mental note about how "light weight" it seemed. Good to know that there are upgrades out there.
