Re-post from RPS

Well thanks to everyones help on here i'm finally done my head. Its a 95 head thats been ported and polished with big valves from Bo-port.
Port and Polish kit was baught from summit.
After i got the head back from the machine shop boring the holes there was a ton of material to grind out once again. Its no race ported head but i'm happy with how it turned out. Its about as good as a hill billy like myself can do in my shop
Well enough said here are some pics, enjoy.

Before Valves where bored out, polished bowls done

I like it. Keep us posted on how it changed the way the motor feels.

I'll keep everyone posted, i hope it doesn't move my powerband into the higher rpms. I hope to hit full boost around 2000rpm now :=) (probably wishful thinking)

Yeah, I would like to know the to cost in parts and machine shop labor. This is something I would like to do sometime too.

$168 for: Magnaflux, Wash, Valve job, New bearings installed and an oil seal
$235 for the valves

Port and Polish would probably be quite expensive but i did everything else myself.

That's real reasonable. Could you post the specs and source for the valves?

Intake is 1.89"
Exhaust is 1.59"

Bought from bo-port racing heads http://www.bo-port.com/
He doesn't list them on his web site but if you email him and tell him the application he'll do them.

I figured i would resurect this thread to show what i ended up doing to the head. I had always had detonation issues with this head. Turns out that the cumbustion chambers are too small, they need to be opened up to 60cc's. So last winter i opened them up to 61.5cc's. I ran the motor all last year at 15psi with no detonation issues at all so i'm confident this was the fix.

I've posted up what pics i have of the work i did to the head, i might have more to add later on if i find more.

Remember this is a 95+ DP head

Gah. Do you want to do mine for me? I have it sitting on the shelf waiting to be pampered but, I just can't bring myself to do it as I feel I'd eff something up pretty quickly.

I'm sure its nothing spectacular in terms of flow. If i where to do it again i'd probably do alot of things a little different, like do it all at once instead of taking the head off 2X haha.

Rob - Do you have big valves? If not i've got a spare head i could port ..... but its much more satisfying if you do it yourself.

If it does have big valves i wouldn't want to risk it haha i'm not a pro, just did it to see if i could.

Don't worry i was scared shitless doing it at first but after i got the first cylinder done like i wanted it, things went alot smoother.

AH. No, I don't have BVs yet. I plan on getting everything at once for my second head. THe BV's, cam, springs, retainers, adjustable cam, etc etc....

Looks awesome. I'm going to be doing mine here in a few weeks probably.
Is your valve train otherwise stock? I've read its best to upgrade your cam when you do big valves.

He just did the cam a couple weeks ago. There's a thread :)

Looks good! It can help air flow a lot just make sure to take as much as you can away from the edge of the valve. Unshroud it all the way out to the edge so the air can get past the valve.

I'm curious what your compression was before and after.

Good job! We finished about the same time. I was too excited though and never took pictures. I'll let you know the dyno differences. I dynoed at 270 hp and 331 torque to the tire at 23psi and 16* Timing. I just changed the following:
Mild P & P 93 DP Head, Esslinger big valves, Unshrouded valves and opened up bowls, Esslinger 2277 cam, ARP Head studs, 1035 gasket, mild P & P upper and lower intakes, and 91 mustang 60mm throttle body with matched upper intake inlet.

Any estimates on HP/Torque increase???

I'll be retuning Saturday at DezRacing in Seekonk, MA!

i hope you opened up those chambers on the 93 head they are pretty tight.

Oh yea. Unshrouded the valves almost to the firing ring. Ended up being 58cc each.

So much for that. Dezracing called me today and cancelled my tune for tomorrow, awesome!!! Ha!! They told me the dyno is coming out of the ground this week for maintenance so it looks like it'll be a few weeks before I get tuned.
