today i went and bought a 95-97 motor for my 98 ranger. the truck is my daily driver so i bought a spare motor to build. tonight hopefully i will pull it apart. ill try to get a pic before i tear it down and as im pulling it apart. friday taking it to the machine shop to check block and head for any cracks and to hone the block.

Take your time and don't break any bolts off. I have tried to take a few engines apart in a hurry, and I have broke a few bolts off. I found my cylinder head bolts needed a 4 foot breaker bar to loosen. I think this is the best way to have a build, with the spare engine. I figure having my old engine out and ready to drop back in if I have a problem will be nice. :peelout:

yeah I started in november, and figured it would be july, but may be a few months longer, depending on how far I get on getting rid of my cheby.

NOOOOO. Might i ask why you didn't stick with a 2.5L? All your accs would've bolted up and everything! All you had to do was swap cranks and get some tc pistons and rods!!

If its not to late I suggest selling it or trading it for a 2.5L! And building from there. Just my thoughts and opinons. Goodluck with the build:thumbsup:

He said he bought a 95-97 engine, which is basically the same thing as a 2.5L except the bottom end internals. All his 98 accessories will bolt right up and he doesn't need to go out a buy a 2.3L crank since he already has one in the 95-97 engine.

got the motor in my buddys truck. when we got it we wire brushed it painted and replaced all the gaskets. he bought a new clutch and trans seal we put that back in. now were doing the simple stuff like the coolant lines and oil and gas lines. today we got the harness in hope to have it running by friday at the lastest. will try and post pics soon and maybe a video of its first one wheel burnout :D
