I found a truck its a 97 manual with a v6, I know I can use the trans but is it possible to pull the motor and replace it with a 2.3? The truck would still be obd2 so I could tune it but do I need a obd2 2.3? Or could I get an earlier 2.3 and just use a newer ranger ecu?

Yea it would be real easy. All 95+ rangers 2.3L 3.0L 4.0L have a stand alone motor harness there is one big plug connecting the harness. The tranny will not work they have a non detachable bell. Sell the motor and tranny and buy a 2.3L motor and tranny get the motor harness also. I took a motor harness out in 15min one day so it's easy.

sounds good. once the holidays are over i have to look around more. the truck i found is a 97 short bed standard cab, for 1200. seems like a pretty decent deal. when i get the sct, do i need to let them know that i have a turbo? how do they program that into the tune? i know that they ask for other mods such as injector size and so on.
