well i knew it was coming with the turbo motor finally in, i was just hoping it would wait a little longer.
i guess its time to start shopping around for a clutch,
i want to get the 4 puck disk from clutchnet like the one jess has in the low dollar clutch thread should i do sprung or unsprung? whats the difference?
im thinking i have a 9 1/8 disk in it now not positive, but if i do can i just keep the pressure plate and flywheel and just replace the disk? if its not the 9 1/8 disk now what pressure plate do i need?
i also read somewhere to get the murker disk which is only 9 inches instead of 9 1/8 with the b300 disk, any advantages or reason for getting one instead of the other?

an unsprung one will give the driveline more shock when you drop it in first
get a sprung one,

the merkur disk is $58, has the right spline count (23) for the ranger tranny and will work with the pressure plate you have right now. the pressure plate isnt worn out the friction material doesnt have enough bite. get the flywheel resurfaced, buy a new disc (sprung) and reuse all your old stuff. i wouldnt run an unsprung on anything other then a drag only car/truck unless you like buzzy vibrations resonating though the entire truck at highway speeds. annoying as hell.

i have an unsprung 4 puck and I love it performance wise, but driving slowly in town, it can get really annoying. For a daily driver I think I would go with a sprung 6 puck.

im with smith on this one. the 6 would be a very nice street strip disc. the 4's can be a little grabby.

if you have the time/money.. get your flywheel lightened... you will feel a diffrence

6puck will be plenty. sprung hub for DD duty.
i run a 4puck solid hub in my tbird. lighter and more responsive for autoX duty. i drive it regularly in the summer, but its not a true DD.

mine is really summer only i have my other truck to drive the rest of the time, how much worse is the 4 then the 6 for street driving? really that big of a difference

i went from a solid 6puck to a solid 4puck over last winter. i also switched to an escort flywheel which is lighter.
my 4puck is a clutchnet disc w/a pyropete pressure plate. it is much grabbier from a start, and will chatter from time to time if i dont give it enough throttle when picking up a slow roll in 1st gear. some of that may also be due to my lighter flywheel.
it took a while to break in the 4puck, but now that it is, modulation is much easier. i find it quite tolerable in traffic, but i do not have very delicate sensibilities when it comes to high levels of NVH in the tbird.
my 6puck was a RAM powergrip. it took everything i ever threw at it for 6yrs of abuse, and never slipped once until the rivets touched the flywheel/PP. 6puck has plenty of holding power for most setups and has smoother engagement.

clutch net has a red pressure plate now for the m5 trannys. 8 7/8 size i think it is. i just ordered a clutch an pressure plate for a 97 with the factory 5 speed an flywheel.i picked up a 4 puck sprung hub with a red pressure plate.

looks like ill be getting either the 4 of 6 puck disk for the murker and a new flywheel ( mines in poor shape) and keep my pressure plate and ill be good?

Merkurs may have different splines on the input shaft - double check.

Drove my truck this weekend with the new motor. First of all, Its awesome!!!!!
Second, I have a 4 puck unsprung. It is real grabby, and kind of unfriendly till you get used to it, but it keeps the power to the wheels. 22 PSI, and no slippage.

ok cool, im kinda leaning that way, probably sprung though, cause its a little cheaper and i know ill never slip
