Hey Jess, I was sent here from TurboFord.net by 40bob. I am seriously considering a 2.3t swap into my 99 Ranger, and I would like to know, what is the best and easiest way to turbo an OBD II Ranger? Full 2.3T swap with wiring and computer? or is there another way? Can the stock computer and harness be used?

Stock computer can be tuned to do everything and more the old 2.3T computers did. No messing with any wiring you just need to buy some bolt on upgrades such as a MAF and bigger injectors. You'll also need some turbo pistons if you wanna make any sort of power. Do some searching here and at www.rangerpowersports.com

Thanks Guys, What Tuning software do you use for the EEC-v? Is the stock Dual Plug head better for boost than the old Turbo head?

Pardon the question...but If one is looking for 200ish hp numbers, and a minimum of work, wouldn't it be easier to just put in an engine/harness/computer out of a Merkur or something? Is there any reason you can't do this? I mean, I understand the need for larger displacement, and Wideband Tuning stuff if you are looking to put down some serious HP numbers and are willing to put a large amount of work (and your paycheck) into the truck, but that isn't really the direction that I was trying to go in for my first turbo ranger.

According to boport the stock 95+ dual-p head flows the best of all the stock lima heads.

It seems like the early Merkur motors with VAM system need more boost to make the same HP.

I had a stock 97 2.3L motor make 180RWHP at 10PSI of boost. 13PSI would have made close to 200rwhp. nagelandy55's truck is making close to 250RWHP at 15PSI.

For tuning see http://www.sctflash.com

That's pretty impressive.

Does the EEC-V Computer control more than just the engine?

Is this with the stock pistons? Can you make 13-15psi on stock pistons?

Do you use SCT's handheld programmer, or the tuning software for the laptop? What Wideband do you reccomend? Are you running a Stock T3 Turbo? or something else? Thanks!

Definitly not stock pistons. I have turbo coupe pistons in mine. Jess uses the pro racer package for a computer. I am running a stock T3 turbo.

Do ya'll use the 5 position chip with the pro racer or the Xcal2?

You still need a wideband right?

We use the Xcal-2. You can get by with out the wideband SCT has injector and MAF files that get the tune real close.
