we swapped out the 2.3 for a 302 and swaped out the m5 for a t5. converted the cable clutch to hydro. but we are having problems with the clutch wont fully release. it needs to have like a 1 1/2 inch movement but i'm only having like 3/4 inch movement. i just using a mustang stock oe clutch for now.

stupid question, but... you did bleed it, right?

You need to compare the hight of a 5.0 PP with a 2.3 hydraulic clutch PP. It could be that the 5.0PP is shallower.

you may need a master cly. with a bigger bore and or longer stroke.

Are you using a stock external slave cylinder? I had problems with that setup years ago, it's a PITA to bleed.

The stock master cylinder is fine. I have run 2800lbs long style pressure plates with it and no problems. I will be using a stock master cylinder with my current 2 disc setup. The slave may be the problem though.

thank you for the help everybody i still cant get to the bottom of the problem.

i'm using a wilwood clutch master and slave. that pulls a 1- 5/8.
has anybody shimmed the flywheel? i'm checking on the dif on the pp hight from the 2.3 and the 5.0.

I know there's a difference in height between an early 2.3 with a T5 PP and a ranger with a M50D PP. It was enough of a difference that the clutch would not disengage.

I'm not sure if there is a difference between the early 2.3 and 5.0 pressure plates though.
