So the starter engages but does not turn the flywheel?

well when i go to crank it it click then it does nothing so i used a jumper wire on the starter to narrow it down and it turned but it doid not crank the enegine would the clutch have anythng to do with it i have yet to bleed it so maybe its not making conjtact???? i dont know im really frustrated

I actually just had kind of the same problem. I turned the key today, and it went CLICK and then i lost all power. I went and replaced the battery terminal connections and now it works fine. Your issue could be a connection to the battery or maybe starter solenoid. Not exactly sure. Have the battery load tested at autozone or something, they do it cheap and free.
Double check all of your connections again

It could be your starter solenoid if you just hear a click. But you say when you jumpered a wire to the starter the starter just spun ...... could be that your starter is toast too. It has nothing to do with the clutch, as long as the flywheel is on and it has teeth you should be good to go.

Is that what you meant? When you hooked up the jumper the starter spun free without flywheel contact??
Starter motors do really strange things when they go out, they act like a dead battery, solenoid, everything like that. If you got it to spin, and it didn't engage the flywheel, that should be all internal to the starter motor, it isn't acting right

yea well it clicked like 4 or 5 times sounded like it was spinning ill take it off tomorrow to see what kind of shape the teeth are in and i guess go from there
also i was looking over everything today and noticed i missed a round on the drivers side it connects to the big connector but have no clue where it went should i just ground it somewhere else?

might have a bad ground on the block. might not be tight enough or lose.

+1 or 2 on the bad ground or connection at the battery.

Hey!! I think I got it.... I did this once. You must hook the ground wire back up to the motor block. I thought I had a bad starter once then I found I forgot to hook up the ground wire to the block. You will see the wire it is right behind the power steering pump a medium size black ground wire.

wow thanks alot guys it was just the ground that jess deiscribed i saw i missed it but didnt know where it went but thanks alot eveyone one more this how do you you prim the oil pump
edit: now it cranks but does not start any suggestions?

When I first went to start up my truck I had the same problem the first time. Jess pointed out to make sure I had the crankshaft position sensor plugged in. Check that first, it connects up near the left side of the crank pulley. Witout that plugged in, you'll have no spark. Lesson learned for me!

nope its plugged in my timing is off tho

Is it still not starting? I didn't realize there was an edit up there. To answer the oil primer question, I primed it when the motor was out of the truck. I filled the motor with oil, kept it level, and spun the oil pump pulley itself while the timing belt was still off, but obviously thats tough for you to do now.
I was told its okay to crank it over without the fuel pump turned on to get the oil flowing, and just crank it.
If your timing is off, make sure to check your timing belt alignment marks. Since these motors are non-interference, you could be way off and it wont bend a valve or anything. When I was first doing my timing belt, I got a little messed up with the timing marks. Each pulley has multiple symbols all around it. Line it up with the back plastic piece, it will have a symbol on it. Line up the diamond with the diamond on one pulley (cant remember which), and the triangle with the triangle, and then the crank, line up the dot on the pulley with the notch that is above it. That could be an easy fix, I'm hoping its something easy!

Cam timing?

07-23-2008, 06:03 PM
yes my cam is off time i cant see the oil pump or crank yet but i see the cam is off..maybe a 1/4 of a turn

if the cam is off by 1 tooth some times they wont start

ok well now i got it to start but it wont stay running i have bigger injectors do you think that would be the problem and theres fuel in the oil which is from cranking it so it would have fuel just spraying and not exploding so what should i do????
nagelandy55
07-28-2008, 07:44 PM
you sure cam timing isn't out any? I would check and double check that. The fuel has to be in the oil from cranking it over so much, there's no other way it could get into the motor. Well except if one of your injectors is stuck open or something like that.

wow it seems like its a common problem to forget to hook the ground back to the block.
i did that last time. it was working fine, then got jostled, and wouldnt start anymore. i took the starter apart, new solenoid, and nothing, then i spotted the unconnected ground

nope timing is perfect. checked and re checked like 5 times. drained the oil and now it starts up and runs but i had to idle it up some if the throttle closes then it dies what do ya'll think it could be?? maybe since i have the bigger injectors in it needs more air to idle? hopefully it will run a little better tomorrow im gonna bleed the clutch and take it for a spin.
bruiser
07-29-2008, 05:42 PM
ok soo now it does not die anymore but when i give it gas it begins to climb but at about 2000 to 2500 it stops and bogs down really bad is this because of the injectors??...maybe getting too much fuel so the comp. shuts it off??

What do you have installed so far? Just the injectors?
bruiser
07-30-2008, 09:27 AM
yup i just added the injectors nothing else.
im gonna try the stock injectors and see how it runs
freebyrd24
07-30-2008, 09:37 AM
If I recall correctly, the injectors are just controlled by voltage. The stock injectors recieve a good amount of voltage because i believe they have a really high duty cycle, meaning they are on almost all the time. The larger injectors wouldn't have to be, so it probably is flooding out bad without tuning. Hopefully others can confirm

You will need a tune to run them injectors. What injectors are they?
bruiser
07-30-2008, 05:28 PM
they are 46.5 bocsh injectors ill be putting in stock ones tomorrow
salating
07-30-2008, 06:36 PM
you have to tune for those injectors otherwise its gonna run peg rich and choke on itself

i think thats what its doing im installing the stock injectors tomorrow

Good to hear its running great! goodluck with the line!

ok got it runns and the clutch is bleed and firm nowww when i took it around the block it has nooo power like i ttake 5 or 6sec to get to 30mph i have and code for the o2 sensor high volts would this cause the problem???
AJ_Fritz
08-10-2008, 07:53 AM
no tunner yet?
might be the o2 but it could be getting to much full and erroring out too.
bruiser

no tuner...i don't need it its all stock now i replaced the fuel injectors wit the stock one..just want it running right before i modd it
