I Just browsed the tuning software page on the Moates web page to see what I will need or what I can learn before I actually try to install and use the chip. I'm lost. Where can I go to read up and learn lingo, processes, capabilities, etc before I burn up my trucks computer? Everyone has to start somewhere when they learn new things, and before I begin asking too many answered questions I want to try to educate myself first. I know some of you are toying with it now, but I have no tuning knowledge or experience to date.... I know, I'm a late bloomer. Any and all suggestions are more than welcome!

Well if you burn up your computer or mess something up, I will send you my extra computer for the cost of shipping. I had some data on how to install the quarterhorse and how to remove the protective covering on the J3 port. I ll try to find it when I have time. In South dakota and mainly driving and sleeping.

Keep me/this thread in mind if you come across anything worth reading or that'd help me or anyone else get in the know on this. I saw on the Moates site 3-4 software programs for the quarterhorse. This is what scared me along with my complete lack of tuning knowledge of fuel curves, basic bins, etc. So Im a great listener when someone wants to bless their knowledge upon me...hint.. I will be adding as I find things or anything as well as asking more questions regarding this tuning method for our trucks, please feel free to join in!

I used binary editor. you can download it and play around with it for free before purchasing the license. I believe there is a write up about it somewhere on the moates website.

Looking at the moates website I cannot tell if if you have to purchase the software with QH. Do I need to purchase binary editor to use QH, or does it come with it?

Going to check if my 95 ECU has a J3 port which it should according to the compatibility list. Looks like it would be a fairly decent tuning option. Just wish we had more info on it here in the tuning section or more people using it, would cut down on my research time.

On the eecanalyzer website in the downloads section theres a list of ecu strategies that can be downloaded for free that work with the Binary editor. check on your ecu in your truck to see which one you have and look on the site to see if theres one that matches. there should be a 3 or 4 digit call number probably on the plastic connector area. something like LA3 or D1A1 are 2 examples. most ford ecus up to i think 2004 have the J3 port but some of the newer ecus cant be tuned thru it(i think i read that somewhere). maybe 99'+.
theres a lot of info on the eectuning website for the quarterhorse and binary editor. i think theres a guy on eectuning that may have binary files for sale, maybe some of the harder ones to find. the name hes under is Popsracing i believe. turboford.org also has a few people using those devices also.

In class we have a 2.3T on one of the engine dynos and it has the quarter horse chip in it, hopefully I can learn more about it (plus Ill have dyno sheets to post to back it all up) and I can post everything I learn.. I might even get it for my truck when I get everything I need to do the turbo conversion

Guys I could possibly shead some light on this situation! I have a quarter horse in my '89 mustang and see Craig Moetes from time to time. When I get my ranger up and going I'll get with him (maybe before) and we could develope a tune prolly pretty quick (cause the dudes razor sharp smart) at which point I'll share tune and knowledge picked up! BTW a company called Toatal Performance Solutions (TPS) tunes with them and im friends with owner also! He mainly does mustangs but will do any ford that can be tuned:) TPS is in the same complex as Thunder Racing and actually share a dyno.

2010 or 2012? when i eventually change over to quaterhorse, i may just get the 2010. i dont know if there is a speed density for 2012 yet with the LA3.
