my brother flipped on its side his 97 2.3 5speed. i have a 2000 2.5 5 speed. my question is that i need a trans and he needs some body parts and (dont know what their called) controll arms looking parts as well as stearing gearbox and all that jazz.
he were thinking about going and buying a parts truck. but i'm sure their is a diff in the 97 5 speed and the 2000 5 speed. what is the best thing to do. i could buy a whole parts truck for what they want a trans for.
thanks

Pretty sure they are the same. Go to Rockauto.com and check out some parts and see if they use the same part number. That always help clerify.

Front suspension between the two are different, they are not interchangeable.
As far as body panels you should be ok and i believe the tranny is the same aswell. To be sure call the ford dealer and ask or like was already suggested look it up on rock auto.
One thing different between the 97 and 2000 tranny would be the speed pickup, the 98+ trucks get it off the differential were as the 95-97 trucks get it from the transmission. Something to keep in mind.
they 2.5l trans has a lower first gear that a 2.3l if i remeber correct, i just remeber hearding about theres a difference

the gears in the 4 cyl are all the same the only trans with lower gears is the 4.0. The trans change at i want to say 94 to a shorter through in the shifter. i have an 88 89 trans in my ranger that i just blew up the truck is a 98
