I have found a 2010 Taurus SHO that has been totaled in the rear I have been told I can pull the engine for $800. Would this be a good swap into my 2.3l 2006 ford ranger it has the mpg and hp that I want plus the better 1/4 mile times. Input is greatly appreciated.

It would be a lot of work to get that motor running in a ranger. Not sure what you could use for a transmission. The wiring would be a nightmare, and i'm not sure how well the SHO motor would fit under the hood. That being said, it would be a very cool swap and if you have the means to do it I say go for it!

if you can get the computer and harness i dont see why you couldnt get it running, transmission will be hard. but that would be one cool ranger

I thought that the V8 SHO used the duratec bellhousing, i'm not sure I would trust the stock mazda tranny to a 3.4L 32v V8 though. There is also the exploding cam gear thing as well, so if reliability not on your needs list I say go for it.

Pretty sure it won't work cause its a FWD motor. I might be wrong though. mounting it and finding a transmission would be the biggest problems I would think.

I think I remember an AWD taurus transaxle. Which woiuld be cool in a Ranger. I saw some pics of a guy putting a SHO engine into a Merkur, if it fit into a Merkur it should fit into a Ranger. I would think?

Gonna need the whole car then to do it. The engine sits sideways like a fwd car. I don't see it being worth the effort, unless your trying to get in a magazine or something. I'd build your duratec to out do the sho motor. If you had a 3.0 or something, I think I might look at stealing the turbos. They are watercooled ones. I think it might cost 800.00 for the motor, but 10,000.00 to do it all said and done.

isnt the 2010 sho an ecoboost 3.5L v6. if so i have seen them mounted in rwd fashion in an old 30-40's ford hotrod. it was pretty badass looking. biggest problem is the wiring as i dont think ford has a swap harness for that engine YET? its a killer motor though making 365hp stock.

id still pull it... It doesnt matter if the car is FWD or RWD. Its just the way the motor is mounted. Ford uses the same 3.8L in mustangs(rwd) and the areostar(fwd). The wiring would be a pain, but Im sure you can get it! As for trans, I'm sure some kind of mounting plate could be used.
@Ron83Ranger: Yes it is the 3.5L Twin Turbo Ecoboost.

Remember to get the ICM, PATS module, and all wiring as well, fuel system too.

for that price i would grab it even if it is to flip it and make some money. they are brand new motors that go for at least 3500. ill check later cause i dont remember seeing it with an auto or stick in the hotrod. hell if you have the time and money to burn why not install it. its just a matter of some fabrication for a one of a kind truck. they come in f150's now so there should be some kind of rear drive trans for it.

well i just checked and they used an adapter plate, aluminum flywheel , performance clutch to mate to a tremec TKO, not sure for what vehicle but i assume a 4.6 since parts are easy to locate. also its a 34 ford that its in.

I didn't know that it had the same bellhousing as a 3.8. In that case get a mustang tranny and get to it. I figured with the way ford is anymore nothing is really interchangeable.

well this is what im betting but not 100% sure of, but the new 5.0 and 4.6 are based off the same mod architecture so they should be able to share trannies and same with the 3.7v6 and 3.5 eco. since they are putting them in mustangs and f150's they can also share trannies? the mustang has 1 auto(6R80) and 1 manual(mt82) for both motors and both 6 speeds but different ratios inside.

The 3.0 ranger trans has the fwd bellhousing pattern in a rwd transmission. The 3.8 has different bell patterns from fwd to rwd.
