Which Trannys can I use

I have a 89 Ranger with a 2.9 V6 Manual Trans and the current tranny is almost out to lunch. I need to replace it and would like to know what are some possible options. I would like to stay with a manual tranny.

you can use a transmission from a 2.9 or 4.0

no problem i been looking for options for a 5 speed for my 4.0 auto 4x4, from what i read you want the m5od from a 4.0, the older mitsubishi ones are weaker, also the 95?+ 4.0 bellhousings are a little different but still work just 1 bolt wont line up
