View Full Version : New To This "Turbo"

Ok so far all I know is it uses exhaust gases to spin the turbine to push air through the engine faster. But I just need a little better explanation. I just bought a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3L 5 Speed for 800 bucks. It's gonna be my little turboed but gas saving, V8 ass whooping, beast. Only Problem with the truck is I think it's a PCV system and it has a lot of underbody rust.

And Take a look at what I pulled out of the intake. Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it a baffle for the intake?

I do belive that's part of your intake "Muffler", yes, it a baffle. Dunno why they installed those.

Right now I'm running a K&N cold air induction w/ Hellex TB spacer till I get my '96 turbo built. It's a hell-a-lot better than stock, better MPG also....

its just a baffle to keep that romp sound from happening. seems like old people dont want to hear air going into the motor.

All right cool, thanks for the link too really helped me get a better understanding. And I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to hear that air being sucked into the engine. :=)

A lil tuning some rods and pistons injectors and a MAF meter, you will be set.

yea wouldnt take much to get it going. a good base tune to start from would only take me a few minutes to whip up

Well would I need most of these parts listed in the 94 and Earlier Forum since my truck is a 1994 :(

A good choice is the J3 Chip.

There is software you can use to make the changes.
Binary Editor is one that I use.

You would need someone to create a definition file for your ECU in order to use this software. I don't know of anyone who has used the Tweecer on a Ranger ECU, but it will work on the ones listed.

Its a bit pricey especially if you want to data log with it.

If you want a good wideband that data logs I would recommend a Zeitronix. It is decently priced. I have one and its works great. It data logs directly to my laptop.

yes you could if the burner software has a definition file for your ECU. then you wouldnt have to repin anything for the LA* series ecus.

hey gary did you get a definition file for your 94 ECU?
