Looking for a tech manual for a 2001 Duratec 23. My son has one with a real problem, idle is good but there is NO power when accelerating. And it is running real RICH. I mean black enough to leave soot on the ground. I cannot find a manual that breaks the engine down. I would appreciate the help. I am not a novice when it comes to gasoline engines, so that should make it easier. Thanks for the assist.

check the fuel pressure regulator. remove the vaccum line and check for fuel....most likely the diaphram has busted....

Your lucky it blew that much soot through the converter if it still has one... If your looking for a Haynes or Chilton, look at a few of the online vendors like rock-auto, autopartswarehouse. Even Advance, Auto-Zone or O'Reillys might have it in stock.

Is the CEL on? That would be my first place to look, see what codes you have. That will give you an idea on where to look.
