on my 2000 2.5L ranger that is 100% stock i've noticed that at over 60mph and 70mph that my truck is giving out slightly. nothing major kinda feels like i driving through really gusty wind. i was in another town when it started and pulled in to an autoparts store and put on a new fuel filter and ran some lucas fuel treatment. thinking it was an injector. i'm thinking bad pump but the problem only happens in higher speed. it is def a fuel problem right? i can hear it rev down like it under more load for frations of a second every 10 seconds. i've ran it empty and filled it back up with gas to check the pump. pumps have a tendency to finish out one you run them dry an fill back up. this truck has always had a tune problem. in the winter i have to sit in the truck and keep foot weight on the pedel to keep it at idel. the truck has 150,000 miles and Brand new looking. never had work done onit but oil changes.

If you think it's the fuel, Buy/rent/borrow a fuel pressure gauge and check it out. Don't guess about it..... it's an easy enough thing to diagnose.

The idle problem in the winter could be the idle control valve not working correctly.

Check your F/P that is a good place to start.

before you go to far id do a compresson check. me brothers 97 has 180,000 on the clock and the compresson is low. if i remember right 100-120-140-120. should be in the 150-190 range. his truck is just plain gutless w/ a good tune.
