I wanted to know if it was possible to use a 98 ecu with a 97 wiring harness for my truck? Only asking because I know the speed sensors are located at another place on the 98 than 97 so the wires to it are different or could I also use the 98 wiring and ECU ?
I am going to the junkyard to take them today and there seems to be... 93 cacaliers in the range of years that I need for my spring retainers so gonna have some fun!
My plans are: 98 ECU with 97 engine wires and some 1995 cacalier retainers.

I'm running a 98 ECU in my 96 ranger with no problems.
You are correct though, the 98 takes the speed from the rear end. My speedo still works though.

Mine's from a 98 also, in a 96. Works good. No issues. Speedo still works *electric, not cable also*.

Just coming back from the junkyard. Before going to the U-pull I've went to see the parts department and the guy was asking 100$ for a 98 ecu... Which is ridiculous.
I've went to the U-pull and found one cacalier victim. When I went to compress the springs in the head my shitty spring compressor literally exploded in my hands... So I was like WTF I have the parts I was looking for for weeks in front of me and can't take them!!!:banghead: So I will be going back tommorow with some saw and GOOD stuff to remove them.
On my way back here's what I spotted:

Looked and saw ohh a 97 ranger... popped the hood... ohhh a 2.3. Take a look inside ohhh a manual... So I took all my wiring for the manual conversion... and also got the CSY2 ecu out of it and see what price the other dude could make.
Guy told me 16$ for the ecu and 18 for the wiring... I was like :moon:. I'll give you 30 for both. I will see if I can get a flh2 from another truck tommorow.
Also saw a few explorer with some nice 8.8 and disc brake... So I know where to find one when I do my swap and have the choice.

Well I think there are three 4 cyl in the yard.. this 97, a 2000 and one other don't know which year. Is the ecu from the 2000 the same as the 98?
Probably also gonna pick up a 8.8 explorer rear with the master. One of my friend also wants one diff to swap to disc brakes on his 2002 4.0.

The U-Pull-It we have here is a good find for conversion parts however there is only ONE 3rd gen ranger in it. That's why I decided to keep my 95' for parts instead of scrapping it.

Yeah... The answer seems clear to me... 93 Cavaliers in the junkyard and 3 ford rangers...
LOL remembers me a funny story.
My friend had a crappy 96 sunfire for sale, 500$ a guy called and came see it. He arrived with his GM cap on the head. Only thing he asked is if the headgasket has been changed... My friend told him that yeah it has been changed. He buys the car then tells us it's his fourtheenth (yeah 14th) sunfire in like 10 years... Now he wanted the engine because his last had blown the head gasket.
And a few still say :-'' Gm is the best ford sucks''? LMAO

To get the 8.8 diff off a explorer and with all the brakes and stuff guy said it would be 125$... Seems a good deal... I've looked at 2 but wasn't able to read the diff code because of the rust... And I wan't the D1 code so gonna wait 'till I find one.
And yeah the dude gave the retainers for free as he saw that I had a shitty time getting em out with my crappy tools!

Since you wrote something about cavalier valve springs, I figured I would pop my head in.
You can use LS1 valve springs which are 110or 120lb... (dont remember which) with retainers and locks from a 2.2 (cavalier or s10 *not ecotec*) and they fit the ranger valves. It is a pretty cheap upgrade. Jess figured that one out and so I have that on my head.

Alright this is no problem. Just tought you were saying it to me. People that wan't to get those springs should go directly to a junkyard and take them directly from a 1994-1997 2.2 head, not worth searching them in the dealers nobody have them anymore.

This is Probly asked hundreds of times but will I need to tune the 98 ecu to run 19# injectors and a 95 gt m.a.f.

if your using a bigger mass air with your stock 19# injectors then you will need to tune for what your using.
i dont know what size the gt mass air is but its going to need a tune for the computer to get the fuel tables right.

So if I just swap injectors I will be fine

it could be a hit or miss. all i can say is try it an see. i know i upped the fuel pressure on my stock n/a an it ran like crap. it was only from the 39 to 41# also.
