Finally finished my T5 swap over the weekend. Nice improvement over the the mazda 5 speed. I just don't like the clutch setup as much - maybe I still have air in the system...
Has anyone else that has done this had issues with the crossmember being jumpy afterward? I had to reinforce mine with some gussets just to make sure it didn't twist.

Fitting the T-5 will require that you either move the tranny crossmember forward or weld an extension plate onto it to pick up the tranny mount. I found this at http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Turbos.html check that out man the got good info on every aspect of the swap.

I read that article a long time ago and had no issues mounting the T5. The question is, has anyone had issues with the crossmemeber being too flexible after it was modified?
I ended up drilling the crossmemeber and making my own bump stop to limit the flex - ever since then it has been solid.
I haven't done it yet, nor do I plan on using the stock cross member when I do. I'm going to pick up a tranny xmember from suicide doors when I do though. Low profile and NEW, since mine is bent to hell from getting dragged across something a few years back it's just makes good sense for me. If it proves to be too flexible I'll just gusset it, somehow.

ive shifted both and the T-5 is such a far superior transmission its just unbelievable. i'd bet you could shave atleast a second off of your 1/4 mile times just in the time it will save you getting it into gear.
even changing to a different shifter in the mazda trany doesnt help. you get better feel but it doesnt improve the time it takes to row from one gear to the next.
i still dont understand why people insist on modding the crossmember when its easier to redrill 4 holes and call it a day. am i missing something or is there more to it then drilling a couple holes?

While I was actually doing the work I was checking everything out and I will be moving the crossmember forward, eventually. For the time being, I just modified what I had - time constrants.

I'll agree with you there, the T5 feels a 100X better when your shifting it. I've got the mazda tranny with a hurst shifter and its still garbage compared to my brothers F-150 or his old mustang. T5's are sex.
Lol I'm lazy, c4 for me. Even though manual valve body?!

Hey nagelandy55, You should put Lucas in your trany. You won't have any gear grinding issues it's amazing.
I know I can shift my 5spd as quick as a t5 it takes practice & the right tranny fluid to prevent syncro grinding.

I did put some lucas in, it helped alot. I think my pilot bearing is shot though so it doesn't shift worth a **** right now. I didn't replace it when i rebuilt the motor two years ago, i know i'm a dumbass.
When i first bought the truck 5 years ago it shifted perfectly, then i had to do a clutch and ever since its been a little messed.
What fluid are you running in yours? I'm using Mobile 1 Synthetic but its two years old now so i should change it too for next year.
