Hey, Im New and Just signed up.. Been looking over the site for sometime and just finally got time to register. My dad owns a shop in the Macon Georgia Area... a welding/Fabrication shop... i weld as well as program in custom parts that i cut on our plasma, and waterjet tables. If Anyone needs custom parts or stuff made in General let me know, Ive got a 1996 Xlt 2wd Ranger Lifted 4" suspension, and running 30x9 mud rovers... Bout to pull motor and forge and Turbo... so ill prolly be asking alot of Questions.. I use to own a cobra and know all about mustangs but no nothing about rangers and 2.3's so If anyone knows what i should so besides go ahead and pull motor and Forge it, and swap rearend let me know what order i should go, money isnt really an option, since ill be saving it for the truck anyways... :turbob:

A new clutch will be needed if you plan on making any sort of power, if you like ceramics i suggest www.clutchnet.com
How are you tuning the engine?

First thing I did with my '96 Ranger was to swap out the 3.73 open for 4.10 limited slip in the diff. Just remeber when you do gear / tire swaps you are going to have to get a calibrator, (Blue Oval Chips), enter the bianary code and resinc the computer to the swap.

Ol days all ya had to do was change the drive gear on the speedo, now ya gotta learn how to deal with computers. But thats the fun & challange of building rods. Being smarter than what you're working on. If not, haveing a site such as this to get the answers. Lates...........Lee

Yah, well i planned on the Clutch when i pulled the motor, I was prolly going to go with a Spec, stage 4, and as far as the rearend, Im looking for a ranger 4.0 8.8 rear, so i can just pretty much swap it out, And for the Tuning i plan on getting a Sct Tunner, and going the Hand program/Software tuning, Im pretty sure this has already been asked, But when i get the motor ready to be forged, can i just use the old SVO rods and pistons, as long as they are the real Forged ones? Or do i need to Find a different set, Im looking to run about 15-20 psi, I want my truck to have enough power and speed, to be i guess how would you say.... Fun? lol. I Had an 03 Cobra, Kenne Bell, motor stroked and bored to a 310 cubic, 5.1L, It was a true 11 second car, Was fast and fun, and got me alot of tickets, and nights in jail... im hoping the truck wont draw as much attention, but then again i want it to be fast enough to were im happy... so if anyone knows of What is excatly needed as far as the rods and pistons and anything else i need let me know, i want to keep my A/C but if nessary i can just roll down the windows.. lol

ARP rod bolts would be a good idea

The SVO bottom end is supposed to handle 400whp in stock form, not sure if i'd want to find out but thats what they say.

Well lets see i can find a set of pistons and rods, from Advance Auto, or some local shop, for a turbo coupe... and i was thinking could they handle up to atleast 15-20psi and they power that would come with it? or would buying a more expensive set be the way to go?

If your going to buy new i would just buy an aftermarket set. If your going to use the stock SVO stuff, there are lots of them for sale if you look around on www.turboford.net

Well lets see if i buy a new Set of Stock 2.3LT pistons and rods, it will be cheaper, but for what i want do i need to spend the extra cash for lets say 300+rwhp? or would stock ones hold up to the task?

stock tc pistons are forged. they will take whatever you throw at them power wise. start looking for some head work if your really planning on 300 rwh if your doing it with pump gas.

With a stock head forged internals, a t3/t4 turbo, the header, wastegate, 60# injectors, spec stage 4 clutch, 8.8 rear with 4:10s, downpipe, and a tune set for about 15-20psi, with intercooler, and 3" ic pipes, what hp am i looking at, if its not enough for me ill prolly port and polish, and maybe even bore... but what with those would you guess i would have hp wise, 15 psi, and then 20 psi..

Almost forgot is there a certain spark plug you guys using, whats the gap, and what you think about accel coil packs? would those be good enough for my setup?

nagelandy55

my guess would be 250 - 300whp

Need pistons? Here are some links. Stay away from advance or auto zone the pistons they sell are not forged pistons.

Hey Jess, i got a buddy that works at Advance.. he swears they are forged... he is ording them from a ford dealership, new piston= 32.99+ new piston rings=4.95 + rods and bearing =42.99, and they are forged he says... think thats a good deal plus i get his 10% off price and my 10% off price so that 20% off of the total... I think ill get him to order them, get them in take a look at em and im pretty sure i can tell if they are the forged ones... If i get these and these are forged, im going to go ahead and start into the motor and prolly send some cash your way for the prolly one of everthing on your product site, and might even get you to send me dimensions on the upper intake you got made so i can make a couple and get em to you guys, might make a Few of em and give them as Gifts, to you guys since metal dont cost me much at my shop, and welding isnt really a big deal to me since i do it on the clock and off the clock anyways, but ill let you know as soon as i get the pistons in, thats for all the advice

They will hold 20PSI forged or not because they are for a turbo motor :)

Well i hope they will, im prolly going to order them today, and pick em up tomorrow afternoon... as soon as i find out they are forged ill let you guys know, and if anyone needs a set ill be glad to order them and send em, same price who ever buys just pays what i pay+shipping... lol and jess you need any welding done? or do you have the dimensions for that intake you got made? i can start to duplicate them if you want, and then you can sell intake manifolds lol...

Wow... i see that i can make it if i have dimensions.. lol, like adapter plates and flanges... i can program them and cut them on our plasma table, all i would need were the sizes.. and how thick etc.. lol i can pretty much make anything except forged pieces, or castings etc.. things of that nature.. anything else i can pretty much do you get me sizes or a drawing and i can see what i can do. im already thinking of making Intakes like jess, ima try a few and see how they work..
