I am currently building my truck from the ground up. I have a 86 svo engine with t5 trans, mild esslinger cam, stock bottom end ect.. looking for around 300hp. Now I am wondering what would be the best set up without killing the bank to wire up the truck. Keep in mind that the truck is completely stripped right now and I hate vam meters

Some more info about the truck is needed. Such as year, what engine and trans it has now or was originally equipped with etc.

I'd say a megasquirt or something along those lines. If u wanted to put the internals in a 95+ block I'd say do obd2 swap

i am not a good turner but I used to do fab work at a dyno shop and the owner would hook me up. The truck is an 88 ranger with a full tube chassis, yota ifs, bodydropped on 20" wheels. Shorted 8.8 ls rear with disk brake conversion 4 link.. all that good stuff

Do you have a wiring harness to start with? I would probably go with MegaSquirt. It's the only tuning I've done so far and it wasn't too bad to learn on. If you went with a later Ford MAF system, you have to buy a lot of expensive parts (flasher, software, MAF). MegaSquirt isn't that much money.
