Time for the manifold build.

My purpose for custom building this manifold is that I wanted a no compromise manifold that would have excellent flow, 1 5/8 inner diameter pipe, allow me to keep air conditioning, and be solid and not have to worry about cracking like with the cheap 304 SS manifolds on ebay.

I am mig welding this. I have made these in the past with a mig welder and had excellent results. A little splatter and not nearly as clean of a weld as a tig, but it will get the job done.

A word of advice if you try build your own with a mig is you need a decent size 220v machine. 110v won't have the penetration needed.

Here is just a little teaser.

Shedule 10 stainless steel.

Im mig welding it. The collector is really nice. Needs a little clean up work to be perfect but function and flow it is all I could hope for. This schedule 10 welds so easy.

where did you buy your flanges?

where did you buy your flanges?

The t3 flange I had a spare from a previous project from years ago. My WG flange came with my wg.

The head flange was from a guy on ebay.

So did you use the two smaller 90s and cut them in half to weld to the flange. Making progress.

The 2 1 1/4 90s were cut in half. I made them oval shape with a hammer and then they fit perfectly in the port of the flange. Then I steped it up to the 1 1/2 pipe. The id of 1 1/4 is actually 1 1/2 & the bigger pipe is closer to 1 5/8 id.

Which guy on ebay? I've only ever found thin 1/4" or so flanges on there

the problem with welding pipe with a mig is the stops and starts. unless you can weld each joint in one pass the joint is flawed. to do it right you would chamfer all the joints and grind out the stops and starts. the only way i would weld it mig is if i had a pulse machine. 100% penetration is the object anything less is a flaw and cracks can result.

I'm pretty sure he only had one.

I got a 3/8" one off ebay, but its not listed anymore. I know a guy kinda, that can make em out of 1/2 with a waterjet for 81.00 shipped with a T3 flange. Its really the cleanest way of doing it too. No burs, straight, perfect. It cost me like 20.00 less going with the ebay ones. But I have two sets now.

looks good steve. ill bet my flange was probably the most expensive one ever made. it cost me $550. i got it from the piece of crap ATR header i had. chopped off all the tubes and had my flange. crushed the rest of the cracked crap of a header.

you gotta love weld els. they do make building a manifold that much easier.

I have the same flange as you do steve. Took it out of the box to see if it had the oval ports. definately poor quality compared to the one I got done with a water jet. Has a few pieces of slag on the front side of the flange.
