Well here's a start for the DIY buget intake. It's not the ultimate intake but a decent DIY buget intake. I bought this runner setup off ebay. It's for inline carbs or throttle bodies $124.00 can't go wrong. This piece looks like it would be more at home on the uk 1.8 duratec but has enough meat to port it out to be quite reasonable for what I intend it to be for. Yes the runners are short but I have an answer for that. That's all I'm gonna show for now just a teaser.

i just saw a very similar intake for the lima in the racer walsh catalog i have. for running webers. it'd be cool to see some ITB's with a proper plenum in front and velocity stacks inside. i know id like to try seeing that intake in the catalog.
cant wait to see what you do, since ive seen some of what your capable of.

Wow, $124 sounds like a deal. Does it use the stock o-ring type gaskets?

No stock O ring gaskets. flat flange, silicone will work fine.

ITB's would be the ultimate but for me and my setup no real advantage since mine's a drag racing setup (street but optimized for drag racing). It would be great for a road race or street setup. If I were doing ITB's I would start with a better intake because the angles are too extreme with this ones but the price is right.

I would love to build a high compression NA engine with weber carbs just because I think it would be cool and would work really great. These engine make 250 hp NA very easy without getting too wild and that could be fun in a 2700 lb ranger:D.

This intake won't be anything wild, just a budget intake. Something the average joe with limited skills or resources could duplicate with minimal help and $ and I will test it agaist mine and the modified cossie knock off.

Which angles are too extreme? Is the port spacing of the DCOE (or whatever carbs fit this) not very close to the Duratec head? Or do all of the runners just angle upward too much (kind looks like it from the pic)? I suppose there should be some angle to match the angle of the ports in the head, but this one looks pretty steep. Still, $124 is dang cheap. Cosworth has one for $260: http://cosworthusa.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=45&idproduct=351

Yes the runners angle up too fast with sharp bends. They can be smoothed too work decent but I would agree the cosworth unit is far superior (and that's the part I'd buy) but I decided to go with the cheaper ebay unit being that it's a budget intake.

Nothing going on right now as I'm trying to get my GT running with the stock engine, well it's running now, just tuning and :peelout: to do.

I'll get back to this soon.
