I have a 97 ranger 5sp 2.3 and am currently building a new motor which is almost done. 2.3 with crowler rods, forged internals, and what not. I am turboing it and am in the process of finishing my header and plan on running about 10lbs of boost. Still have head work to do. But that is my first question. I have the dual 4 plug head and a head that i had on my mini stock motor that is an older head(forget what head) but of course it is shaved as far as i could go, but it has larger valves put in which i want. So therefor which head would best fit my engine with what i am doing? Also as far as tuning what would i do? I believe i have the OBD I computer. But i was also thinking about just going with a carb since i already have the knowledge of working with them and jetting..ect. Just need some opinions thanks much fe390man

You're OBD-II with a 97 Ranger. Stick with that computer and go with a tuner.
Stick with your stock head for 10PSI since the older head is shaved. You can get larger valves for the DP head, ask Jess where his came from.

SCT makes a tuner and software you can use, that is what Jess and myself are using but its pretty expensive compared to some of the other ones like Sniper. Mind you i don't think anyone has tested the Sniper tuner with a 2.3T that i know of.
The MAF can be tuned through one of the tuners above.

The large valves for the 97 head can be bought from bo-port.com
You'll just have to email him and special order them.

It is just a tuning aid. It shows you what air/fuel ratio the engine is running.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is an 02 sensor with a broader range. Instead of 0-1v it is 0-5v.

Yes

It basically is able to have a higher resolution so you can read actual air/fuel mix instead of only being able to tell lean/stoich/rich

the is it possible to just get a sensor and plug it into the ecu harness. i have the x-cal, i thought i read somewhere that it can datalog, can i just use it that way.

also, i was looking on the innovate site, if you didnt wanna do something permanent, they have this thing that bolts to the end of the exhaust pipe, with one end going into the exhaust pipe, kind like how they do emmissions testing. if you didnt wanna buy one cuz of the price, would it be possible to try to find a shop with one of these and just use theirs. its no somthing you need to run the truck one it tuned, right??
