Ok heres my problem i have a 2000 ford ranger with a 2.5L engine in it and a 5-speed trany now i just want to get the motor ready for a turbo so like pistons and rods etc..... Now the Problems are will 2.3L pisons and rods work for the 2.5L because i see very limited supplys out there for my engine...... if any one can give some guidance to wat i should buy please be specific with everything to looking for at least 220HP with no turbo if possible and to move to turbo in the future thanks in advance

yes the 2.3 rods an pistons fit the 2.5 block.
dont think theres a way you will get 220hp out of a 2.3 n/a. not unless you plan on running 13-1 compression an very high lift cam.150 hp would be more realistic.

You can use the 2.3L pistons and rods but you will need to swap in the 95-97 2.3L crank.
2.5l pistons std. bore 8-1 comp for use with stock 5.2 turbo rods or a 5.2 crower rod. http://racerwalsh.zoovy.com/product/RWA1552_0/RWA1552_0__pistons_std_81_52_25.html

Okay i see now if i want like 165HP N/A what do i need??? 1- is the crank from the 2.3... does that fit the 2.5l fine also 2-pistons and rods.... if i buy the ones highlighted do they fit fine in the 2.5l block with the 95-97 crank and where can i get the crank at??? also what else can i do to get more power with out putting turbo yet

if you are builbing your engine for a turbo application, you won't be able to make the kind of power n/a that you want with the low compression pistons you need for a turbo motor.
turbo motors without a turbo are lucky if they can get out of their own way.
i think you either need to build for n/a power OR turbo power.

Yes a 95-97 2.3l crank will fit into your 2.5l block. You can pick up a crank kit at most auto part stores for 150-200$ http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1138081,parttype,5292

ok so if im better off just building a turbo engine because i want turbo so the best rods and pistons to use are the 2.5l pistons std. bore 8-1 comp for use with stock 5.2 turbo rods or a 5.2 crower rod right and wat about the tranny do i have to do anything to handle the extra power??? other then clutch and presure plate srry if im bothering a lot this is my first project got a lot to learn
You'd probably be better off snagging a turbocoupe or some other factory 2.3 turbo short block to start off with. All the internals are forged, the pistons dished, and even a block drain hole. People make 300 hp on stock block.

you can sech car-part.com for a lot of the stuff you looking for.
you can keep your 2.5 block you just have to drill an tap it for the return. its easy to do.
95-97 2.3l crank
85-89 2.3 turbo rods an pistons
get a turbo coupe manafold with the ihi turbo an your boosted till you fell the need to upgrade.

ok well i have the 2.5l block so i have to work with that wat do u mean by drill an tap for the return??? srry new to this
The oil from the turbo needs to be returned to the block. On a turbo block there is a 3/4 (I think) threaded return. You can either tap the block, or you can put a return in the oil pan. I heard that some people have problems with oil backing up into the tube with that last setup though.

so if i dont have a turbo block then i have to tap my 2.5L block and run a line to the turbo from the the block right???
or your oil pan either or, go to turboford.net and search there a ton of examples of people doing it on the cheap. Usually with gas stove stuff lol. But ya there needs to be a return for the oil from the turbo.

I Also wanted to know if this turbo (turbonetics GT-K turbo) Will Fit with the turbo maniford being sold on this site the web site for the turbo is http://www.turbo-kits.com/gt-k_turbochargers.html
You just need to make sure that they are the same flange. For example ford uses a t3 footprint on the factory turbo. So if you put a new turbo on, you need to make sure it has a t3 foot print. Also make sure if the turbo you want is externally wastegate that the mainfold you select has a provision for it.

you will be drilling the side of the block an using a pipe tap to put threads in the block for fittings. so a search on here an you will see how its done an where to put it in.

i see thanks a lot well im going to start buying some stuff in like 6 mths ill put some pics up of what i did so far thanks alot again i learned so much also can someone explain a little how a wastegate works because the turbo im getting i do not see any info on the wastegate

a wastegate just divert energy around the turbine to regulate boost and keep the turbo from overspeeding.

Yes, you just have to run the right header. I believe the header Jess sells will allow you to keep AC

all depends what turbo you put on, if its a T3 you can use a stock downpipe.

Kiss torque good by. You will want10-1 comp a lot of head work a cam a very well balanced bottom end that can support 7K RPM's. With no turbo you need a good flowing head and high RPM's to make a big HP gain.

you'd be better off dropin a 302 in it for the cost and headache!! good luck!!
