Looking at buying a 1995 Ranger 2.3 5 speed 2wd. I have a 1987 Turbo Coupe Thunderbird at disposal. I'm gunna keep everything stock except front mount intercooler, bypass valve, t3/t4 hybrid with .82 ar turbine housing, .60 ar comp housing. What do you guys think? I want a very stout street pickup. Plan on droppin' it, nice wheels and tires.

.82 ar will take forever to spool

Swap in the rods & pistons from the TC engine into the ranger block, swap over the turbo and manifold and be done with it. You will need a larger MAF, injectors, fuel pump and a tune. Don't expect to run over 15psi with a stock head without reworking the combustion chambers or adding a water/meth injection kit.

Heres a pic of the housings and wheels. I'm gunna get a new t3/t4 watercooled bearing housing from work ( for only 48 bucks lol). Header, and external wastegate. I plan on the motor being a high revver.
Think this stuuf will work out alright?

whats high... you might need to look at some crower rods if your planning on higher then 6200rpm.
or if your talking you want it to come in late and hard disregard earlier statement.

Don't mean to hijack or anything but can your clarify what you mean by "Don't expect to run over 15psi with a stock head without reworking the combustion chambers or adding a water/meth injection kit."
I did the same swap in my 93 (stock engine with TC pistons/rods) except I am running an LA3 and large VAM. I have run 20psi all day long without issues, except in the winter it seems I cannot run as high of boost without some stumbling, so I back it down to ~17 and things are fine. Is there something I should be concerned about? I'm not really up on knowing how much boost is too much... I figure as long as it runs fine, the AFR looks good, and I don't hear any wierd noises, it should be fine. My truck does run pretty rich in boost (about 10.5) so I figure better safe than sorry...?
Thanks! :thanks:

hoss the 95+ heads have issues. rad was suggesting he use his stock ranger block and head to keep from having to rewire the engine.

Exactly what AJ said.
When Jess was pioneering the late DP heads, he (as well as Nagelandy55) were running into detonation issues. The DP heads have a smaller combustion chamber and raising the CC's cured their issues.
DP head combustion chambers have a volume of roughly 53 CC's. Stock turbo heads are around 60 CC's. I'm not sure what the volume is for the 89' - 94' heads, but if you ran high boost on yours with no issues, I would assume the combustion chambers are bigger than the DP heads.
