When I get my tunes for the Xcal2,can I get a tune to run E85?The fuels I'd like to be able to run are Shell 91,Amoco BP Clear 93,and E85.
The problem I am facing is when I go visit relatives in Kentucky. They only sell 87 octane in the mountains. The coal mine villages are over an hour away from a fuel station with higher grade fuels.I may add a 2nd fuel tank or a big fuel cell.My truck is not a flex fuel vehicle. Will I need to add anything, like sensors or bigger maf/injectors?

I'm also wondering if theres tunes for higher octanes. Like here at Sunoco we get 94..??

You can run 87 89 or 93 oct just takes a different tune for high or low octane. You can not go over 10PSI on 87oct.

I never got to try E85 yet so I will need to work on a tune for E85 once I try to run it.

You will want big injectors no matter what. 42Lb injectors recommended.

You will need a large MAF 90MM MAF recommended.

Thanks Jess.
I wanna run E85 for max power.

We used to get Conoco 110 but they took the pump out in favor of more 87.People around here are ignorant of the damage they're doing to their vehicles, by running cheap gas, when their manual clearly states the octane rating.

Ya i ran 87 octane at 10PSI for the longest time. Worked great, just gotta make sure it doesn't ping. Up here in owen sound we can only get 91, god i wish we had a sunoco with ultra 94 (like down in waterloo)

A snow performance boost cooler kit would be just as good as 94+ oct.

SCT tuning can tune for E-85. http://www.sctflash.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3923&highlight=E-85

Octane ratings being the same, you will always make more power with Gasoline.

If your going to compare E85 to 93 octane gasoline then yes, you will make more power with E85. But the consumption rate really sucks ass.

As far as hardware goes, you don't need anything special except an adequately over sized fuel system. For example, if your injector duty cycle is already running 65% with gasoline, your not going to have enough room to run E85.

I ran E85 for 3 years in a Turbocharged Mustang. The exhaust smells cool too.

Who? and what vehicles? Turbo'd? or N/A? Most vehicles from the factory that are not performance are tuned to run off the lowest (typically 87, or 85 if higher elevations) octance. Using higher octane *usually* adds zero benifit other than a higher pump bill.

I like the Idea of converting to e85. Being 85% alcohol you will need to redo your calculations for fuel pump and injector sizing so you dont go lean at wot. Another thing to consider is that e85 is corrosive and you may need to replace fuel lines or rails. I think it is corrosive to aluminum but dont quote me on that. Anyway, I have heard the octane is arround 110

His 2001 ranger will be fine with running Ethanol based fuels. *Most* vehicles since around 1980 have had the capability of running ethanol mixed fuels. And anything built after 1995 was government mandated to be able to run ethanol products with no corrosion worries. Though for that matter, the ranger (or any of the fuel injected 2.3(T)'s) were not TBI, therefore the risk of aluminum corrosion isn't a worry since the injector is at the base of the lower intake.
