i got my xcal2 a little while back, now what?
i got it used so it has some tunes on it for a mustang. how do i get it cleared?? do i have to send it back to superchips, or can i just take it the steeda (or local dealer) shop around the corner??
also i tried installing all the software from the website, like the data logging stuff, and it never recognizes my tuner, even when its on, could this be because its used??
and lastly, when its time to start up the ranger, i know i have to hook up the programmer to the computer so that it will download the stock program. does the ranger have to be running, or just have power.
if it has to be running, wouldn't it run crappy since its not set up for the turbo and bigger inj. big maf
im not done rebuilding the engine yet, and right now im trying to get my hands on some 60lb inj. and get a 3 angle valve job, once i get that dont its just a lot of little stuff, like put it in.

I don't know much but from what I've read..
The tuner needs to be unlocked then locked to your ranger ecu. From there they put 3 tunes of your choice on it which are specific to the mods you have. Ie - injectors, maf, size of turbo, etc etc. AND as far as I know, you can get this done at a dealer for SCT tuners? Unsure bout it but I sure hope so!

Cool.
1st off check if it is unlocked. Plug it into your truck, scroll down till you come to device info it will say stock or aftermarket. If it says stock you are ok and it is unlocked. If it says aftermarket call SCT and you may have to send it to them to get unlocked for like 150$
This is the program you will use to load the LL3 tunes onto the Xcal-2

Before the tuner will work on your PC you must install the drivers.

That should work ok to check it. It won't hurt the computer, it can't.

So if it's unlocked..how do you get it locked? Does it have to be SCT? Or can it be a dealer?

Any new Xcal-2 is unlocked. As soon as it tunes a ECU it goes into locked mode and will not work on any other ECU. To unlock it the xcal-2 must return the tuned ECU back to stock it is then unlocked and free to tune a different ECU.

Yea you would have been ok. Seems like the guy selling did not know how the Xcal-2 works.
Send away to get locked :hehe:
You would have needed to reformat it to a 9400 and load your ranger tunes in it and you would have been set.

Would have been?
I'm still waiting for it to show up here in the mail. I'm going to plug it in and test it out before I do anything with it. I just hope I got as good of a deal as I think I did haha.

oooop's I thought you said you did not win it, SRY miss read it.
That was the BEST deal I have ever seen on a xcal-2 WOW!!!
To format it to a 9400 all you need to do is download the Live Load
http://www.sctflash.com/software/liveload131.exe it's the same SW used to load the tunes and click on format. It's easy.

Pimp. That's what I thought. I was just LAUGHING when I took it for that price. Kinda fell into my hands too haha. Got an email from ebay sayin that he lowered his reserve price and the guy that was winning lost interest. I could see ebay said "next bid meets reserve" so I waited it out and bid and won! EZ win. Anyways...
Hope you get your xcal workin man!!

Now once its unlocked and you have it, you need to get the tune. How do I go about getting the tune? Do I just e-mail any local SCT dealer? Do I contact the headquarters and have them send me a tune? It was 50 dollars right? I'm just not sure who to contact, or if it matters where I get the tune from. Thanks everyone!

Getting a good tune for a turbo setup can be complicated lot of tuners say you must run on a dyno for a good tune. If you want I can talk to Mike for you. He should be able to get it about right on.
