Got my built C4 tranny, it is covered by warranty to handle 500HP, Auto manual valve body. I ordered a custom stall converter from PTC had stall set at 3000RPM's.
Put the tranny in today. According to the instructions it says to break the tranny in with the rear tires up in the air free rolling. They say to run it threw the gears for about 1-1.5Hr's
Guess what the tranny broke 10 min's in. :( It shifts real hard and fast :) I loved the way it felt I shifted into drive a few times then down to 1st. It would jolt the truck real bad every shift. Well 10 min in I eased it up to 65MPH and that is when it automatically shifts to drive. It shifted hard and I heard something snap and the tranny went dead :( think it snapped the input shaft. Duno, I will pull the tranny back out in the mourning.

That's horrible. At least there's a warranty, but still...PITA.

Ditto
Sh!tty luck Jess. Let us know what broke, and, who did you buy the tranny through?
* I'm thinking I might skip the whole T5 deal and go with a Richmond T56, can get em out of Summit for a couple grand. Would be killer to have a 6 speed Ranger :)

Jackson Performance Transmissions from North Carolina. They are suposed to be pretty good.

Strange things can happen from time to time. Was the radiator and cooler flushed out before install. I know even a tiny amount of debris in the fluid will cause lots of problems. Also the filter won't filter fine enough to prevent it. Definitely flush extra for the second trans if you see signs that there might be metal contamination

6 speed ranger?!!?!?! THAT WOULD BE PIMP. Geeeebus another overly expensive mod I can't afford hahaha.

If your truck is light enough the extra gears might not be a good thing

Wow that really sucks, you haven't been having too good of luck with trannys.
I think this tranny breaking is the man telling you to put in a T-56 :peelout:

3300 lbs there about. I enjoy taking the truck to the track, but it serves 90% of its time on the street. A six speed cruiser would be pimp. That, and with the Richmond T56 from Summit, you can pick your own gearing. So gear spacing could be setup perfect.
It's also a 'real' 6 speed. Not one of those shoddy dual over drive 6 speed which would more than likely be a hindrance for a 4 banger.

Pulled the tranny today. Turns out the input shaft was not in the converter more than 1/4" and stripped the spline :(
I'll send the converter back to have it fixed.
The reason I am going with a auto tranny is so I can launch will full boost and pull off some nasty quick 60' times.
Too short an input shaft? Converter not seated completely?
What gives?

Any metal contamination in the fluid? Does It look like metalic paint when you shine a bright light at it.

Not much. There is some metallic in the converter. I am sending the converter back and they are repairing it. Hope to have it back together in a week or so.

have you thought about getting a trans brake put in too while you have it back out. you can still load up the convertor an build boost an also shock the tires like a clutch.

I thought about it. I am going to try with out it and see how it goes. I'll use the foot brake on the line in 2nd gear when the light goes green I?ll bump it into 1st.
If that don?t work I'll go with a trans brake.

UPDATE
I sent the converter back to PTC. Tim gave me a call and said that it was nothing I did. They some how messed up on the converter and they will cover all the extra costs. He says there company will go the extra mile to make sure I am happy and I get what I paid for :)
The converter will be fixed and sent out next Tuesday.

I checked everything. The bell is from a 2.3L pinto. I know the converter was faulty because the f32 pinto converter and the old stock c4 worked well together.
I should have every thing back in by Friday. The converter should have shipped out today.

Is anyone have any problems with their stock man. trans? anything breaking or anything that should be changed while i have the motor pulled?

The manuals seem to hold up fine. The clutch could be stronger. The only problems I have ever had have been leaky shift rail plugs and loose shifter pivot bushings. Both are easy repairs and dont require trans removal

All you need is the bell from the ford pinto. They had a 2.0L 4cyl mated to the c4. they are not common and usually run close to 175-200$. The C4 can be built to hold over 1000HP It only costs around 300-400$ to build one up to hold 500HP. Just need a valve body and the red line clutch rebuild kit.

what complications am i gona have tryin to fit the c4 into the frame? tranny brace has to be moved, what about the shift tower spacing in the floor board? can i keep a bench seat, or 60/40 split necessary? looks like you had some clearance issues with the adapter plate what gives there? the sfi a better plate to go with, souds super versatile!!

I would have taken this rout earlier if I had known about this adapter plate 2 years ago.
I like the idea of the AOD way better.
