I would talk to jess on that one. He has about 25 psi on a stock a4ld, and he did some electric adjustments to it. I would still try to have a C4 built in case of failure, cause for the cost of a rebuilt one you could have one heck of a C4 that won't fail.

for the A4 (a wate of time and money IMHO) you will need the later model internals form a 4.0l Explorer, I am not sure if it has to be the 4x4 one or not....

I have a 2000 4R44E (electronic A4LD). The one upgrade that I had to do and is pretty much a must is the forward planetary gearset. The 2.5 came with fewer planet gears then it's 4.0l counterpart. Also, make sure you have any valve body updates done.
2.3/2.5 on the left 4.0L on the right

4R44E is the one jess was, is running. adjusting the transmission though the tuner.

thanks for the advice, so all i have to do for the stock auto is change the planetary's, do valve body updates and use the tunner? sounds pretty simple. i just dont want to dump a bunch of money in to the 4R44E if for the same price i can get a c4.

Don't get me wrong here. A c4 will ultimately be able to handle a lot more then a 4r44e. The c4 has a huge aftermarket behind it. The 4r has virtually nothing. If the 4r isn't shocked to hard, it *should* be able to handle 300+ish horse.... But.....
I recommend that you purchase a 'rebuilt' complete valve body. They are not very expensive and all the homework is done for you. Look at some ford explorer forums for the who what how on the 4r44e/a4ld. It's all been covered quite well.

cool, tanks for the help! i just would rather build stocker (for now). i just didn't know exactly what had to be done to keep it. i seen jess runnin' it and i didnt think it would handle the power or if it was very practicale. i don't plan on making to much power (untill i get more money).im just going to start out with 10 or 12 psi and work my way up from there.so the 4r44e will work for me for a while.
