Default Get More Power Out Of A 3.0 V6???

As you may guess, or may not even know... my 98' ranger is my new baby. I havent had her long like my 2.3L

I was wondering if anyone could tell me some good ways to gain some power out of this turtle. i have seen other posts about how to get 300+ RWHP for the 2.3 and 2.5....what are some simple things to get some more out of this baby??

I dont want to tear down my motor and rebuilt it from ground up right at the moment, I would just like to not feel like more of a pansy driving my 3.0 rather than my 2.3....lol.....

Would a cold air intake help? maybe some other minor things for now besides bore, stroke, port n polish, turbo etc. lol

Thanks for all the help and advice btw.
Thanks
Colton

Have you paid attention to how the guy's are making those 300+ HP out of the 2.3/2.5's????

If you're not willing to do work to the engine, you're not going to be seeing any drastic improvements.

AMEN!! 300+ hp=major modification but if you want lazy horse power....lol j/k a simple not hard thing would be a cold air intake, exhaust, then get your computer tuned. you can get like 15 to 20 peak hp out of a tuned computer i know that 15-20 doesnt sound like much but if you look at the hp chart for that tune it may only be 15 at peak but gains of like 70hp down around 2000-4000rpm powerband. since you dont want to turbo or anything

200 is hard to get out of a stock 3.0. On my 91 I ported the lower intake and half shafted the TB along with turning the distributor a couple of degree. I also had a bandrel bent gibson exhaust and underdrive pulleys. Quicker, yes, and it was fun to drive hard but it wasn't fast. Compared to other 3.0's I was happy. My favorite mods to the truck were the 6.0 e350 front springs and monroe reflex shocks. It was still noseheavy but it was very controllable when sideways.

i was just curious about whether it would be worth chipping it or whatever before doing any major mods ya know what could i do to get a lot out of a 3.0? is it at all possible to get even neer 300 hp without spending like 10,000 Dollars? lol
I was thinking if the mighty little 2.3-2.5 4 banger motors could do it why not my 3.0? lol

but arent all the 300 hp 2.3-2.5 turboed???

well you could put a big nasty shot of nitrous on it and grit your teeth when you hit it to hope it all stays together

Most of the 2.3 guys are turboed running 300 hp. But you can get 300 out of a 2.3. My buddy had a 270 horse mustang with a 2.3 that was na. The cam was huge, he had high compression, a long tube header and a whole bunch of go fast stuff. It was pretty cool, but it never hit any power till about 4000. But it ran like a bat out of hell till about 7000.

The "mighty little 2.3" has HUGE aftermarket support because of the the Mustang and Turbo Coupe. The 3.0 doesn't have that support because nothing it was in was really a performance vehicle. Morana Racing has some NA go fast goodies, but I didn't see forged internals. You could also look around Super Six Motorsports. I haven't looked around their website, my computer doesn't like their site. Either way, building a 3.0 isn't going to be cheap. You could find used Whipple, but then you are going to be around the same power as a stock 4.0 SOHC.
